About

Welcome to Jared Burchfield Music!

My name is Jared Burchfield, and I am a freelance clarinetist and saxophonist from Cleveland, Tennessee. I repair woodwind instruments, play gigs in the Chattanooga area, and teach applied lessons on clarinet and saxophone. In addition to clarinet, I also have experience playing bass clarinet as well as alto, tenor and baritone saxophone. I am currently pursuing a masters degree in clarinet performance from Lee University starting in the Fall of 2025, after which I hope to study instrument repair and start a full time business doing that work in this area.

After playing bass clarinet and saxophone throughout middle school and high school, I attended Lee University starting in 2019 and graduated in May 2023 with a degree in K-12 Instrumental Music Education emphasis in clarinet. While at Le,e I studied clarinet with Dr. Amy Humberd and saxophone with Mr. Alan Wyatt and Dr. Clint Schmitt. I played clarinet and bass clarinet in the Lee University Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. David Holsinger and Dr. Joshua Pace. I also played baritone sax, lead tenor, and lead alto in the Lee University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Alan Wyatt, as well as principal clarinet, second clarinet, and bass clarinet in the Lee University Orchestra under the direction of Sarah Pearsons.

Additionally, I have played tenor sax and baritone sax at Southern Adventist University in their Wind Symphony under the direction of Ken Parsens. I also played 2nd tenor sax with the Premier Jazz Orchestra in Cleveland, TN under the direction of Steven Bearden from 2021-2022. I also played clarinet as a member of the First Baptist Cleveland Orchestra from 2019-2022 and the Westmore Church of God Orchestra from 2023-2024. I also have played in the pit orchestras for the following musicals performed in the area: “The Drowsy Chaperone,” “Disaster,” “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” and most recently, Chattanooga State Community College’s production of “Anastasia” under the direction of Nick Hartline in 2025. I currently work as the manager of the Instrumental Inventory Office at Lee University in Cleveland, TN. I am responsible for keeping track of, assigning and maintaining all woodwind, brass and string instruments owned by the university in this position.

During my time teaching, going to school, and playing in this area I noticed a great need for affordable and reliable band instrument repair. The few shops in our area can be overpriced and quite far away from the majority of band programs, especially those north of Cleveland. It can be a hassle for both directors and students to drive all the way to a shop for a simple repair like a tenon cork or single pad replacement, and repairs can often take weeks to complete. My goal is to provide a closer and quicker option for both students and schools who want to avoid long repair wait times and unnecessarily high pricing. My goal is to get your instrument in the best playable condition possible for the lowest possible price, while still providing quality work and excellent customer service.

In addition, I have a passion for repairing old instruments and getting them back into service, and I want provide good used quality instruments to students at prices that they can afford. In offering cheaper repairs and affordable instruments, I hope to make band more accessible to students. Band changed my life, and I want to help provide that same experience to all students by allowing them to get a great instrument at a great price. Though I have done instrument repair for a number of years, I am not a professionally trained woodwind technician. I am self taught and merely do this work as an opportunity to practice instrument repair skills and help those who need instruments fixed well on a budget. The work I do here is completely my own work done using my own methods, my best judgement, and my preferences as a player which may not align other people’s needs or industry standards.
