My name is Jared Burchfield, and I am a freelance clarinetist and saxophonist from Cleveland, Tennessee. I repair woodwind instruments, play gigs in the Chattanooga and Knoxville areas, and teach applied lessons on clarinet and saxophone. In addition to clarinet, I also have experience playing bass clarinet as well as alto, tenor and baritone saxophone. I am currently pursuing a masters degree in clarinet performance from Lee University starting in the Fall of 2025, after which I hope to study instrument repair and start a full time business doing instrument repair in this area.
After playing bass clarinet and saxophone throughout middle school and high school, I attended Lee University starting in 2019 and graduated in May 2023 with a degree in K-12 Instrumental Music Education emphasis in clarinet. While attending Lee University, I studied clarinet with Dr. Amy Humberd and saxophone with Mr. Alan Wyatt and Dr. Clint Schmitt. I played clarinet and bass clarinet in the Lee University Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. David Holsinger from 2019-2022 and Dr. Joshua Pace from 2024-2026. I also played baritone sax, clarinet, lead tenor, and lead alto in the Lee University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Alan Wyatt from 2019-2022, as well as principal clarinet, second clarinet, and bass clarinet in the Lee University Orchestra under the direction of Sarah Pearsons and Dr. Leonardo Rosario. During my masters, I have continued to study clarinet with Dr. Amy Humberd and I continue to play clarinet and bass clarinet in the Lee University Wind Ensemble under Dr. Joshua Pace and the Lee University Jazz Ensemble under Alan Wyatt.
Additionally, I have played tenor sax and baritone sax at Southern Adventist University in their Wind Symphony under the direction of Ken Parsens. I also played 2nd tenor sax with the Premier Jazz Orchestra in Chattanooga, TN under the direction of Steven Bearden from 2021-2022. I also played clarinet as a member of the First Baptist Cleveland Orchestra from 2019-2022 and the Westmore Church of God Orchestra from 2023-2024. I also have played in the pit orchestras for the following musicals performed in the area: “The Drowsy Chaperone,” “Disaster,” “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” Chattanooga State Community College’s production of “Anastasia” under the direction of Nick Hartline in 2025, and most recently The Marquee Awards at the Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville, TN. I currently work as the manager of the Instrumental Inventory Office at Lee University in Cleveland, TN. I am responsible for keeping track of, assigning and maintaining all woodwind, brass and string instruments owned by the university in this position. I am also currently apprenticing with a retired woodwind repair technician in Knoxville.
Since college, I have also taught private lessons to middle school and high school students from Meigs County High School, Ocoee Middle School and Walker Valley High School. I have worked band camps at Cleveland High School, McMinn Central High School, Southeast Whitfield High School, Lake Forest Middle School and most recently, Meigs County High School. I have also repaired instruments for Lee University, Cleveland High School, Meigs County High School and have repaired and sold instruments to a number of individual middle and high school students in the Lower East TN area.
During my time teaching, going to school, and playing in this area I noticed a great need for affordable and reliable band instrument repair. There are few shops in our area, and they quite far away from the majority of the many band programs in this area, especially those north of Cleveland. It can be a hassle for both directors and students to drive all the way to a shop for a simple repair like a tenon cork or single pad replacement, and repairs can often take weeks to complete. My goal is to provide a closer and quicker option for both students and schools who want to avoid long repair wait times and high pricing. My goal is to get your instrument in the best playable condition possible for the lowest possible price, while still providing quality work and excellent customer service.
In addition, I have a passion for repairing old instruments and getting them back into service, and providing good quality used instruments to students at prices that they can afford. In offering cheaper repairs and affordable instruments, I hope to make band more accessible to students and families who many not be able to afford a new instrument. Band changed my life, and I want to help provide that same experience to all students by allowing them to get a great instrument at a great price.
